Special Education Supports for General Educators

Supporting students with disabilities is a shared responsibility, and general educators play an essential role in ensuring access, engagement, and success for all learners. This session provides a practical overview of special education processes, legal requirements, and collaborative practices that support inclusive learning environments.

Participants will explore disability awareness, special education and Section 504 foundations, MTSS and Child Find responsibilities, eligibility criteria, accommodations and modifications, Universal Design for Learning (UDL), IEP development and implementation, student privacy requirements, and effective communication and collaboration practices. The session will also address attendance considerations, programming across educational settings, restrictive procedures, and legal safeguards.

Through real-world examples and practical application, attendees will gain a clear understanding of their role in supporting students with disabilities while meeting legal and educational requirements.
