Minnesota Paraprofessional Training Overview hosted by INDIGO Education
This comprehensive training is designed to equip paraprofessionals with the essential knowledge and practical skills needed to effectively support students and educators in inclusive educational settings across Minnesota.
Training Topics Include:
- Core Paraprofessional Competencies:
Understand the foundational responsibilities and expectations of paraprofessionals in both general and special education environments. - Overview of Specific Disabilities:
Gain insight into a range of disabilities, including autism spectrum disorder, ADHD, developmental delays, learning disabilities, emotional and behavioral disorders, and physical or sensory impairments. Learn how to recognize characteristics, respond to needs, and implement supportive strategies. - Instructional Support Strategies:
Learn how to reinforce academic instruction under the direction of a licensed teacher, including how to support differentiated instruction, promote student engagement, and use accommodations and modifications effectively. - Inclusive Practices and Student Support:
Explore ways to foster inclusion and belonging, support students’ access to the curriculum, and collaborate with special education teams, related service providers, and classroom teachers. - De-escalation Techniques and Positive Behavior Management:
Develop skills in recognizing signs of dysregulation, applying trauma-informed and proactive strategies, and responding to challenging behaviors using positive behavior supports and de-escalation techniques that promote student dignity and safety.
Training Format:
Interactive sessions include real-world scenarios, video demonstrations, group discussions, and practical tools paraprofessionals can use immediately in their daily work.
